It was announced earlier this year that after 23 years serving the local community, The Furniture Station was to finally close its shutters. The charity struggled with increasing financial challenges and to continue into a 24th year would have required a significant £50,000 in on-going funds – sadly, in spite of much effort, this was not to be. The large response received since the announcement included words of support, encouragement, personal tributes and passion for The Furniture Station in its work to help vulnerable local people. The Furniture Station said “thank you and goodbye” at the end of March with an event that brought together staff, volunteers and supporters. Since opening in 1994, the great work the charity achieved in the community was remembered by everyone. With this, our final post, we show a photograph of a fabulous cake made by a local baker that captures the heart of The Furniture Station. HGBC is sorry to say goodbye to The Furniture Station and wishes its employees well for their future. Renewal North West is a re-use organisation also in Stockport, and can be reached on 0161 476 2777. You can visit www.frn.org.uk to find other alternative local re-use organisations.
